WaowDeals Pro Cycling starts on Sunday in the Amstel Gold Race as the first race of the Arden Classics. Sports director Jeroen Blijlevens brings Jeanne Korevaar, Anouska Koster, Riejanne Markus, Pauliena Rooijakkers, Marianne Vos and Sabrina Stultiens to the hills of South-Limburg.
The riders start in the centre of Maastricht for a long loop of 66 kilometres. This is followed by a local lap of 18 kilometres which is covered 3 times, including the Geulhemmerberg, Bemelerberg and Cauberg. In total, the riders will be presented with 17 climbs in Limburg. The finish line is drawn well over 1.5 kilometres from the top of the famous Cauberg.
Televised
The Amstel Gold Race has been back on the programme since last year after a couple of years. There are 2 smaller changes as opposed to last year’s edition. Aside from a small amendment in the final lap, the start is somewhat later (10.50) which increases the broadcasting time. The Amstel Gold Race will be televised live in the Netherlands. Keep an eye on the social media of the various TV channels.
Collective
“We hope to be collectively strong. An important phase is the climb of the Keutenberg where the road gets smaller and which will make the race more nervous as everybody would want to be well positioned. If we get our riders placed at the front after the Keutenberg, we could possibly try something”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens. “In the final, we will see who has the strongest legs and who we can play out.”
Week in Limburg
After the Amstel Gold Race, WaowDeals Pro Cycling will make it a week in Limburg. Landal Kasteeldomein De Cauberg, member of the team’s Business Peloton, will be the base during the Waalse Pijl and Luik-Bastenaken-Luik for our squad.
