Monique takes podium spot in a classic echelon stage

A podium spot for Monique van de Ree in the penultimate stage of the Healthy Ageing Tour, who sprinted in Winsum to a 3rd place behind day winner Chantal Blaak and Kirsten Wild.

The penultimate stage of the race in the north of the Netherlands quickly changed in a classic echelon stage. Thirteen riders were in the right echelon and were able to distance themselves, including Monique van de Ree and Riejanne Markus on behalf of WaowDeals Pro Cycling.

It quickly became clear that the day winner was to be found in the leading group, so all cameras were focused on this company. A small group got away around 10 kilometres from the finish, including Riejanne. For a while, it seemed to be the right escape, but the foursome got caught again.

Following a few escape attempts, a group of 5 were able to get away. Monique pulled out all the stops to make the connection which she succeeded in. “It then remains to be seen where it would take us…. You know that winning is very difficult with a good sprinter like Kirsten Wild”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.

Podium spot
Chantal Blaak won ahead of Wild and Monique, taking a podium spot for WaowDeals Pro Cycling in Winsum (Groningen). The stage race concludes on Sunday noon in Groningen.
