A busy day for WaowDeals Pro Cycling in the Healthy Ageing Tour. Riejanne Markus raced in the north of the Netherlands to a 7th place on Friday in the morning stage (2A). The team took 6th place in the team time trial in the afternoon. Jeanne Korevaar is still in the running for the young rider classification.
The 6-headed-team of DS Jeroen Blijlevens were mandated to work as a block in the morning stage of 66 kilometres, which they did. It lead to Riejanne Markus (7th), Monique van de Ree (13th) and Jeanne Korevaar (16th) finishing at the front, after a leading group of 5 got caught in the final. Kirsten Wild outsprinted the other sprinters.
At noon, the team prepared itself for the TTT of 17.5 kilometres, crossing the finish line as 6th in slightly more than 23 minutes and giving away well over a minute to the winner Boels-Dolmans. While this team was clearly the stronger one, WaowDeals Pro Cycling could compete well against the rest of the participants. “A nice time, but there is room for improvement”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
Young rider classification
The penultimate stage (143 kilometres) is on the programme on Saturday. Pauliena Rooijakkers gets some rest and will not start. The remaining 5 riders will do everything in their power in the northern Dutch race to finish well. Jeanne Korevaar is still at the top of the young rider classification. “We are looking at a tough stage, with wind force 4. Curious what will happen”, says DS Jeroen Blijlevens.
