The Ronde van Vlaanderen did not bring what was hoped for. A top classification was out of reach for our riders on Easter Sunday. Anna van der Breggen won the UCI Women’s WorldTour-race after a long, outstanding solo.
“It was a tough race for our riders today. The place which we thought would be decisive, on the Kanarieberg, was indeed where it happened. We were simply not with the best”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
Van der Breggen initiated her attack at the end of that climb. She would be seen again only after the finish line in Oudenaarde. Marianne Vos and Anouska Koster eventually finished as the first WaowDeals Pro Cycling riders.
Crash
There was a major crash shortly before the climb of the Muur van Geraardsbergen, which included Jeanne Korevaar. She got back on the bike without too much damage. Jeroen Blijlevens: “She got slightly frightened which is unfortunate as she was quite ok.”
