Flanders is getting ready for thé day of the year. This coming Sunday (1 April) will be the Ronde van Vlaanderen, starting at 11.00am with an expected finish at around 3.15pm. Sports director Jeroen Blijlevens brings Jeanne Korevaar, Anouska Koster, Riejanne Markus, Marianne Vos, Sabrina Stultiens and Monique van de Ree to the start of this UCI Women’s WorldTour-race.
The start is Sunday morning in Oudenaarde. In the first hour, the riders will be confronted with 3 cobbled sectors: the Lange Munte, the Lippenhovestraat and the Paddestraat. After a passage in Oudenaarde, the hilly area is looming with famous climbs such as Leberg, Berendries, Muur van Geraardsbergen and Pottelberg. In between the climbs, the cobble stones of the Holleweg and Haaghoek will appear.
“We expect that the race on the Kanarieberg, at 35 kilometres from the finish line, will really ignite. This was also a decisive point last year”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens. In the remainder of the course, the riders will climb the Kruisberg, Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg. Once the 13-kilometre-long road to the finish in Oudenaarde has been covered, we will know the new Ronde-winner.
“The team’s form is good. We see weekly improvements with Jeanne Korevaar, Anouska Koster and Riejanne Markus whom can compete with the best in the peloton. Also Marianne Vos has been showing her worth”, says Jeroen Blijlevens. “We are not equipped to impose anything, but hope to be at the front with a couple of riders once the final climbs start.”
