WaowDeals Pro Cycling took a podium spot at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda. Marianne Vos sprinted to a third place in the third UCI Women’s World Tour race of the season, behind Chantal Blaak. Kasia Niewiadoma soloed to victory shortly before, in the rain-soaked Cittiglio.
It took a while for the Italian classic to get started. Amialiusik and Santesteban broke away at two-thirds of the race, after which Guarnier and Jasinska made the connection. The 4 collected a modest lead and got caught in the final lap of 18 kilometres.
The gap with the front of the race had gotten rather small, and the strongest riders were able to make the jump. Around 10 riders escaped, including Marianne Vos, who looked strong and was attentive when others accelerated.
On the final climb to Orino (3-kilometres-long, average gradient of 4.1%) in the last 10 kilometres, Niewiadoma jumped. None of the other riders had a fitting answer at the attack of the Polish and she crossed the finish line solo. Marianne sprinted 22 seconds later to the third place, behind Blaak.
Podium
Sports director Jeroen Blijlevens is happy with the podium spot and the display of his 5-headed team. “It was a closed race, it took long for it to break open”, he says. “It is great to see Marianne Vos back with the best riders, just as in the Ronde van Drenthe, and her race to the podium.”
The other 4 WaowDeals Pro Cycling also completed a decent race. Dani Rowe, Anouska Koster and Riejanne Markus finished in the peloton, not far behind Marianne Vos’ group. “We progress each week.”
