Marianne closes cross season with overwhelming victory

Marianne Vos was keen on a good result in her last cyclo-cross of the season. She took off strongly on Wednesday noon in Belgian Maldegem and won the Parkcross with a substantial difference. “This doesn’t make up for the 18th place at the Worlds, but it feels good to close the cross season like this.”

Marianne, in the bright green WaowDeals jersey, quickly took off after the start on the hard, frozen surface. A chasing group, including Sanne Cant and Katie Compton, were already losing out, even though the American tried several times to close the gap but to no avail. It was merely a battle for the 2nd and 3rd place which eventually were for Annemarie Worst and Laura Verdonschot. Compton crossed the finish line as 4th and Cant as 7th.

“The circumstances were totally different than last weekend.  The Parkcross has always been a fast cross but the frozen surface made it even faster. I could quickly set my own pace”, says Marianne who decided only on Tuesday to participate. “I wanted to close the season in a proper way which I have succeeded in today. This victory confirms that I am physically well-prepared.  Moreover, I have enjoyed the race today. It all worked out.”

Training camp
On Thursday, WaowDeals Pro Cycling gathers for the traditional team presentation. Marianne and the rest of the team leave on Friday on training camp to Calpe to prepare for the opening of the actual spring season. The first road race for WaowDeals Pro Cycling will be Omloop Het Nieuwsblad later in February.
