THE FINAL STAGE IN DOWN UNDER TURNED OUT INTO A MASS SPRINT

That's a wrap for the first of four parts in Australia. In the fourth and last stage of the Santos Women's Tour Down Under, the WaowDeals Pro Cycling riders crossed the finish line in the peloton.

The final stage of the Australian race was a criterium of 20 local laps (46 kilometres). After 4 laps, there was a crash, involving a large chunk of the peloton. “After some patching up, our riders could luckily continue the race”, says Jeroen Blijlevens.

WaowDeals Pro Cycling could not accomplish much in the remainder of the stage. “Each break-away was bound to fail.  We were racing in wide streets which provided a good overview. This and a constantly high pace, is a recipe for a mass sprint.”

The Australians were most successful on Sunday. Chloe Hosking put the final stage in her name. Her compatriot Amanda Spratt claimed the victory in the general classification.

Ahead
Jeroen observed in the last couple of days some positive points within his team. “Obviously, it was a pity to have lost 3 peons due to illness and misfortunate. I saw progress from the 3 remaining riders, especially in the 3rd stage which was a simply a very tough one.  We can work with that.”

WaowDeals Pro Cycling stays in Australia during the coming weeks. Firstly, there is a training camp in preparation of the classical spring-season, followed by 3 races: the Zero Race Melbourne (25 January), the Daikin University Elite Women's Race (27 January) and the Women's Harold SunTour (30-31 January).
