A fruitful start in the Ladies Tour of Norway. Marianne Vos finished the 3.5-kilometre-long prologue as second. She needed 0.64 seconds more than the winner of the day, Ellen van Dijk.
Marianne Vos started Thursday at 5.15 as the first WM3 Pro Cycling rider. Kasia Niewiadoma rolled around 20 minutes later from the start podium. DS Jeroen Blijlevens chose this early start for his team captains in order to anticipate possible bad weather in Norwegian Halden.
This tactic worked well as Marianne quickly established a challenging time of 3 minutes and 45 seconds. Many prologue specialists could not compete with the European road champion's sharp time. Only Ellen van Dijk was able to beat Marianne's time by 0.64 seconds. Kasia also set a strong performance with 3 minutes and 55 seconds.
The prologue was split in 3 blocks, with 30 seconds intervals. The race was on hold for short period of time following a crash from the Danish rider, Norman Hansen, leaving enough time for the emergency services to attend to the injured rider. Four riders who were hindered by the crash were allowed to restart their prologue.
In the 3rd block, many riders tried every effort to beat Ellen van Dijk's and Marianne's time with only Lisa Klein and Katrin Garfoot coming close. Anouska Koster finisted as 16th (3 minutes and 52 seconds) and Kasia as 23rd.
