Marianne Vos strikes twice in the BeNe Ladies Tour

WM3 Pro Cycling made a good move on Saturday in the BeNe Ladies Tour. Marianne Vos took the victory in the time trial (stage 2b) which also led her to the leader’s jersey.  Moniek Tenniglo also rode a very strong stage against the clock and took the 2nd place. Marianne was earlier in the day already 2nd in stage 2a.

DS Eric van den Boom was very satisfied after the time trial. Quite rightly so, aside from Moniek and Marianne, also Jeanne Korevaar and Rotem Gafinovitz made a very good time.

“When we started the race, the general classification was not an objective as such. Following the prologue in Vlissingen with Marianne’s crash, a high ranking looked as far off as ever. However, after the 1st stage, the confidence in a successful outcome increased. Today, we hoped to take seconds in both the stage and in the time trial which we achieved”, says Eric van den Boom.

“Marianne was riding incredibly fast and also Moniek proved to be capable of great things in this sort of time trials. She is very happy with this result, and rightly so.” Moniek was 4 seconds slower than Marianne (13.59). The rest of the participants had to give in to bigger time gaps.

Defending the jersey
The BeNe Ladies Tour has a final stage programmed on Sunday. The goal for Sunday is to defend Marianne’s jersey. “The peloton will cover 9 times a flat lap (112 kilometres, red.). It is not self-evident that the jersey remains in our team. The competition is very strong which became obvious during the last couple of days.”
