An important weekend is upon us. Marianne Vos (elite) and Inge van der Heijden (U23) compete in the Danish Bogense on Saturday and Sunday for the World titles cyclo-cross. Both have travelled north with great ambitions.
“I prepared well and I’m looking forward to it. On the other hand, it is also exciting. The level is very high, the favourites are pretty evenly matched. Lucinda Brand, Sanne Cant, Katie Compton, Denise Betsema - they all have a chance to take the gold medal. All I can really do is ensure that I have strong legs on Saturday and to make the most of it”, says Marianne Vos, who has been several times at the highest step of the podium in her successful career.
“It will be my fifteenth World Championship cyclo-cross, but really, it is just as exciting as the first time. It is still a World Championship... The crazy thing is: such a championship can make or break your season. On the other hand, it is quite amazing: everything comes together here, everyone tries to be in their best shape. It is an ultimate race; first class sports.”
Last weekend, Inge van der Heijden won the international cross in Rucphen and took off to Denmark with confidence. “I’m in good shape and hope for a podium place. But well, it is not yet in the pocket. First we have to complete the race. I approach this one like all the others, even though it is a World Championship. I'm going to do another recon and then I should be ready.”
