Marta Lach was on behalf of CCC-Liv in the attack again today. Already after 20 kilometres in the final stage of the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour, our Polish took off with two others; six riders joined in later. A strong leading group, with the necessary sprinters, fought for the stage win. Marta was neatly fourth, behind winner Elena Cecchini, Coryn Rivera and Jolien D'Hoore.
“We agreed to jump again today with breakaways. Marta was second in the points classification prior to the start of the stage and had an interest in an attack. She wanted to take over the jersey and was always strong in the intermediate sprints, but Barbara Guarischi, the number three in the points classification, was also in the escape. She was a league too strong”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
CCC-Liv can look back at a more than deserving stage race. In addition to two podium places, for Pauliena Rooijakkers and Marta, the mountain jersey is also going to the Netherlands. Pauliena made it intact through the final stage and sweeps up the mountain classification.
“Even though we were here with a small team, we have always achieved a very high level. Some riders have surprised me very positively”, says Jeroen Blijlevens. “We jumped along with escapes where possible and thus helped to colour the race. Two podium places and a classification jersey are the well-deserved rewards.”
