Marianne Vos has accomplished another amazing performance in the Tour de l’Ardèche on Wednesday. Our team leader, also leading in the GC, was part of an attack early in the race. In Beauchaste she outsprinted Clara Koppenburg, the only remaining co-escapee after 111 kilometres. The success in the sixth stage brings the total for CCC-Liv to four stage wins.
The peloton raced hard on the first climb of first category (Les Ambales), only leaving thirteen riders at the front, including Jeanne Korevaar and Marianne Vos. Although a few riders could reconnect afterwards, the tone was clearly set. After 52 kilometres there was an intermediate sprint. Four riders jumped away on a descending road. Marianne successfully made the leap.
After this descent, the lead was 1.5 minutes with immediately another climb, one of second category (Montrenaud). Marianne and Clara Koppenburg took the initiative together. “Marianne then rode fast to grab as much time as possible in the general classification. In the last 8 kilometres, she never left the lead. It was great that she could complete her efforts with another great stage victory”, according to sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
Marianne leads the general classification as well as the points classification. Thursday is the tough final stage.
