The Belgian opening weekend of the cycling season is just around the corner. CCC-Liv will start the Flemish classics on Saturday with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Sports director Jeroen Blijlevens takes the following six riders to the start: Jeanne Korevaar, Riejanne Markus, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, Evy Kuijpers, Agnieszka Skalniak and Valerie Demey.
“The Omloop Het Nieuwsblad remains special, because it is the first classic. At the same time you notice that the sequence of the season is somewhat changing. There have already been several races, so some of the pressure is already off. We, for instance, have already raced in Australia and Spain. However, the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad is still a race where you want to perform. It is a first indicator”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
“Various scenarios are possible in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. A finish with a larger group of riders is a possibility, just as last year, depending on the wind. Another possibility is that in the middle or towards the end, a group breaks away on the Wall of Geraardsbergen or the Bosberg, which is strong enough to keep an advantage until the finish line. In case of the latter, we should be at the front with our strong team.”
