Marianne Vos was extremely satisfied after her victory in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda on Sunday. Not only with her result, but also with the performance of the entire CCC-Liv squad. “We played the game perfectly. This victory is a great feeling, for myself as well as for the team. We want to maintain this level.”
“There was quite a high pace on the climbs. It was important to be at the front and not to waste too much energy. We knew that the final laps would be decisive and that the race would really be played there. The team controlled well at the important moments. I saw Jeanne Korevaar responding several times to tempo accelerations. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio and I were able to keep as relaxed as possible until the final", says Marianne.
“We had agreed in advance that Ashleigh would make the race hard in the last two laps. On the climbs she had enough leeway to attack and break away. Ashleigh did so, but could not get away. Though her efforts resulted in the fact that we were left with a very small group in the final. I felt good and then asked her to take the lead, not knowing that the chasing group was so close behind us. The lead-out was just perfect.”
Sunday's WorldTour victory confirms Marianne Vos’ and the rest of the CCC-Liv’s good form. The same team already proved, in the Strade Bianche in particular, that they were able to compete well. “I had hoped that I could take part and I felt good, but I didn’t expect a victory straightaway. It is rather nice to be successful here. Hopefully, the victory gives a boost in moral for the important weeks that are ahead of us.”
