With a last-minute jump Marianne Vos won La Course Friday afternoon. With the harbour in sight our leader accelerated and sprinted past Amanda Spratt, who had been in the lead solo for about twenty kilometres. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio pushed her Liv-bike across the line as fifth.
“With Jeanne Korevaar we were nicely represented in the first real breakaway of the day. Later on we also rode at the front with Ashleigh Moolman Pasio. When Ashleigh and her four co-riders had been caught, we still had riders in the group behind it to control the race. Among others Riejanne Markus did a lot of work in the last kilometres to reduce the gap with Spratt, enabling Marianne to jump past her in the last kilometre. It was not necessary to close the whole gap; we wanted to keep it at about 10 seconds at the start of the last kilometre. Because we were familiar with the final and knew that Marianne was able to win with a jump”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
“Today Marianne Vos was the sky-high favourite in the eyes of many. But then you must still make it happen. The team left its mark today, the riders went through hell for each other to guide Marianne to victory in France as well. Many teams had a strategy to get rid of Marianne on the way. But nevertheless the team kept control over the race all the time. That deserves a big compliment.”
