With a third place in the Tour of Guangxi, Marianne Vos assured herself on Tuesday of the overall victory of the UCI Women's WorldTour. The Chinese one-day race (145 kilometres) was decided in a mass sprint. Chloe Hosking was the fastest of the bunch.
Sports director Jeroen Blijlevens: “We wanted to make the race hard on the two climbs that followed quite soon after one another. This worked out quite well as the peloton broke apart twice after the efforts of all our riders. But after these climbs, the peloton stalled each time, resulting in a mass sprint.”
Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio came in second on the first climb of the day - at that time Yixian Pu was still in the lead. On the second climb, our South African was the first to reach the summit. With this great achievement, Ashleigh won the mountain classification in the Tour of Guangxi.
UCI Women’s WorldTour
After the Tour of Guangxi, many eyes were on Marianne Vos. Her third place in the mass sprint was more than enough to win the UCI Women's WorldTour. Jeroen Blijlevens: “It is a very nice way to finish the road season. She has also earned this jersey, because she has collected the points in various competitions, in sprints as well as in the most difficult races."
