The GP de Plouay in France did not bring CCC-Liv what the team had hoped for in advance. Partly due to bad luck, the team was not able to play a major role in the final, although Pauliena Rooijakkers finished nicely in the group of favourites. At 12 kilometres from the finish line, this group could not anticipate Anna van der Breggen’s breakaway. The Dutch won solo in Brittany.
Sports director Hugo Brenders: “We started this race with four riders and knew it would be difficult to take the initiative. Nevertheless, we raced along nicely. At a crucial moment, at 60 kilometres from the finish when the pace picked up, our team leader Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio had some adversity on a hill. She had to wait and ended up in the second group. Pauliena Rooijakkers had already been attentive at the front during the entire race and was still in the strong first group. We wanted to try to jump away with her on the wide road in the final, but unfortunately the better legs were gone by then.”
