CCC-Liv made it comfortably through the fourth stage (100 kilometres) of the Giro Rosa. The flat stage between Lissone and Carate Brianza was coloured by an attack with three riders; Letizia Borghesi was the fastest of the trio. Marianne Vos is still wearing the points and the mountain jersey.
“The stage seemed like a good opportunity for the sprinters. But when three riders attacked, there was not enough willingness to launch a serious chase. This scenario wasn't too bad for us, as the finish was not ideal for Marianne Vos due to the slightly sloping road in the last 200 meters. We also know that more challenging stages are ahead of us when we want to support our leader Ashleigh Moolman Pasio as well as possible”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
Course change in next stage
The next, fifth stage on Tuesday would bring the riders to the top of the Gavia, but that climb is not safe enough because of the snow. The riders now race to Bormio and Valdidentro, as an alternative, and then start the final climb to Lake Cancano. Jeroen Blijlevens: “Tuesday is the time for the classification riders. The race really starts now for Ashleigh Moolman Pasio.”
