Ashleigh Moolman Pasio and Pauliena Rooijakkers started the Amgen Tour of California in a very solid way. Where Ashleigh finished in a group at 18 seconds from stage winner Anna van der Breggen, Pauliena finished 15th in 20 seconds in Ventura.
In the first stage of the UCI Women's WorldTour race, with start and finish in the beautiful coastal town of Ventura, the riders covered over 96 kilometres. Olga Zabelinskaya was the lonely escapee, but her lead fell back on the last, non-categorised climb of the day. Anna van der Breggen broke away and kept it up to the finish.
“Ashleigh Moolman Pasio and Pauliena Rooijakkers made it well through the first stage. The toughest of the three stages is tomorrow. It will be crucial to be able to make the connection and to go for a good result”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.
Inge van der Heijden
CCC-Liv will have to compete with one rider less. Inge van der Heijden had to drop out during the first stage. Inge rode her first road race in the Amgen Tour of California since her successful cyclo-cross season.
In the Amgen Tour of California, CCC-Liv races through the proverbial backyard of co-head sponsor Liv. The team already visited the main office on Wednesday and on Thursday there was an Instagram Live with Ashleigh Moolman Pasio.
