Final stage Luxembourg is 25 metres too long for Riejanne

Riejanne Markus just about missed the stage victory in the GP Elsy Jacobs on Sunday. In the final stage, she was caught only 25 metres before the finish line by the chasing peloton. Lisa Brennauer sprinted to victory and also secured the general classification.

“It was an attractive race with many breakaways. We were always well positioned. We had agreed that Riejanne Markus would attack at 5 kilometres from the finish which she did with gusto. She was very close to the stage victory. It is a pity that she was caught 25 metres before the finish line, but that can also happen”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens.

Evy Kuijpers sprinted to the seventh place. Riejanne eventually finished tenth and sixth in the general classification (+ 12 seconds). Agnieszka Skalniak was taken to the hospital on Sunday as a precaution as she was suffering from the consequences of a crash in Friday's prologue.
