Ashleigh Moolman Pasio made a brave attempt on Friday to move up in the overall ranking of the Amgen Tour of California. In the difficult second stage, our South African finished third and also climbed to the third place in the GC. She could unfortunately not prevent overall leader Anna van der Breggen from increasing her lead.
The second stage was a tough one with a finish on Mount Baldy. Three riders were ahead at the start of the final climb, but quickly saw their lead go up in smoke. The teammates Anna van der Breggen and Katie Hall took matters into their own hands and accelerated. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio did everything on behalf of CCC-Liv to close the gap, but unfortunately to no avail. Hall seized the victory before van der Breggen.
Ashleigh finished 33 seconds from the stage winner. She is now third in the general classification with over a minute behind van der Breggen. The number two, Hall, is closer in sight with just over half a minute ahead of our South African. Saturday is the third and final stage in the Amgen Tour of California.
Pauliena Rooijakkers also had a great day. She finished eleventh (1 minute and 51 seconds behind the stage winner). With this achievement, our rider from Brabant moved up to the tenth place in the GC.
