Inge puts up a fight in Brussels cyclo-cross, but lacks the power for a top spot

In the cyclo-cross at the university campus of Brussels (the seventh race of the DVV Trophy), Inge van der Heijden finished on Sunday afternoon at an eleventh place. Our Dutch U23 champion soon noticed after the start that she lacked the absolute power to go for a top place, contrary to previous crosses. Winner Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado pretty much led from start to finish.

"I felt okay at the start, but then I noticed that I did not have the strong legs from before. After the bends, I missed the power to properly push on”, says Inge, who in the fourth round got a flat tire. "I subsequently lost some ground, but remained calm and picked up a good pace after the bike change. I kept on fighting during the rest of the race and won back those places.”

Confidence for Dutch championship
The Brussels cyclo-cross of the DVV Trophy was Inge’s last race prior to the Dutch championship next Sunday. "The Dutch championship is a race in itself, that's where everyone starts at zero again. I know that things are looking good and that the course in Huijbergen suits me better. It will be less muddy and I also like the differences in altitude", says Inge, who is checking out the course next week.
