The road season for CCC-Liv has started with the first stage of the Santos Women's Tour Down Under. The ride between Hahndorf and Birdwood (over 112 kilometres) was settled with a mass sprint. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio sprinted to a nice sixth place. Letizia Paternoster had the fastest legs.
“As a team we managed to stay in the peloton, which remained together during the entire stage. Some have not yet properly digested the jetlag, and so we wanted to start cautiously”, says sports director Jeroen Blijlevens. “In the final of the race, we positioned ourselves at the front. Great that Ashleigh sprints to a sixth place. After arriving in Australia, she had some throat problems and was not a hundred percent fit. ”
The second stage (nearly 117 kilometres) awaits the riders on Friday. Jeroen Blijlevens: “This is the most difficult stage of all. There is a climb of 3.5 kilometres towards the end with the finish on top. Let’s see tomorrow, if possible, how Ashleigh is performing. As a team, we will drop her off as well as possible at the start of the climb.”
