After two stage victories, Marianne Vos booked another one on Sunday in the Tour de l’Ardèche. She won the third stage (131 kilometres) from Avignon to Apt in the Vaucluse.
Three riders attacked in the third stage. The last of the trio was taken back at 6 kilometres from the finish. Marianne took the lead with a group of five and dropped her opponents in the technical final.
Sports director Jeroen Blijlevens: “Marianne rode attentively at the front all day. On the last climb of second category, with the top at 12 kilometres from the finish, she tried to get away several times, but to no avail. At the end, however, she was again the fastest. A great achievement, because she had a strong group to deal with.”
Jeanne Korevaar also completed a great stage once again. “She was always well positioned at the front and was involved in breakaway attempts. The end of the stage was unfortunately just a bit much which is not surprising, because she has been in the attack for a long time on Saturday.”
CCC-Liv lost another peon on Sunday due to physical setbacks. Valerie Demey has been suffering from a cold for several days. The complaints got worse on Sunday night, making her decide to abandon the race.
