Marianne Vos' leader's jersey was not at risk on Tuesday in the fifth stage of the Tour de l’Ardèche. She finished second in the 113-kilometre stage to Saint-Félicien. Marta Bastianelli had already crossed the line minutes before after a monster escape of almost 80 kilometres. Marianne not only remains the leader in the overall ranking, but is also the first in the points classification.
Sports director Jeroen Blijlevens: “The stage was particularly difficult in the beginning, with a climb of first category, among other things. When Bastianelli went on the attack, it became an uncomplicated stage for us with a comfortable scenario. Bastianelli was 22.35 minutes behind, so we didn't have to worry too much. Marianne Vos and Jeanne Korevaar participated in the remaining peloton of forty riders and completed the stage well. This was another day. Hopefully we will remain strong in the two remaining stages and we will cross the finish line with a victory.”
