Our team will go public under a different name as of next season. Starting on 1 January, the successful formation of DS Jeroen Blijlevens will be known as WaowDeals Pro Cycling, named after the Belgian company WaowDeals. WaowDeals is internationally active in the area of safe and digital payment methods which generates extra benefits for the customer in the form of discounts.
“We are very proud with this agreement. Marianne Vos and her colleagues will be prominent ambassadors of our product”, says Jan Harboort and Alain Daeghsel, the two CEO’s of WaowDeals. “We already have been visible in the peloton and are convinced that we will make an even bigger name for ourselves with a larger audience. Women cycling is growing very fast and we will be represented on two fronts: on the road and in cyclo-cross.”
Team manager Eric van den Boom: “The name changes, but the team and the organisation stay intact. We have launched the Fortitude project mid-2016, which stands for an open team concept making it possible for all companies, big and small, to connect to top sport. Entrepreneurs are represented in the Business Peloton. By working with a larger network of companies, we would like to ensure continuity.”
Van den Boom thanks WM3 Energie for its enthusiasm. “Very soon after the launch of the Business Peloton, we got in touch with WM3 Energie. This company, with great ambitions, positioned itself as front-runner in our Business Peloton. Following a season as being the eye catcher, WM3 Energie will move to a second seat of the Business Peloton, making way for WaowDeals to become the namesake.”
Recently, management has invested quite some time in shaping a strong selection for 2018. From the current team, Rotem Gafinovitz, Yara Kastelijn, Anouska Koster, Jeanne Korevaar, Riejanne Markus and Marianne Vos will stay with the team also next season. Sabrina Stultiens is the first newcomer. More names will follow in the next couple of days. The team remains international with a focus on riders from the Low Countries.
Jeroen Blijlevens’ team was successful in the past season with victories in the OVO Energy’ Women’s Tour (Kasia Niewiadoma) and the Ladies Tour of Norway (Marianne Vos), two of the main stage races (WorldTour). Moreover, Marianne Vos became European champion on the road and second at the World championship cyclo-cross, and success was guaranteed in Gracia Orlová (Riejanne Markus) and the Lotto Belgium Tour (Anouska Koster).
